The History of Jolly Roger OBX: How a Family-Owned Seafood Restaurant Became a Local Favorite

Jolly Roger OBX is a family-owned seafood restaurant located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The restaurant has become a local favorite, known for its fresh seafood, friendly atmosphere, and charming décor. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the history of Jolly Roger OBX and how it became a beloved part of the Outer Banks community.

Jolly Roger OBX was founded in 2007 by Michael and Diane Holcomb. The couple had recently moved to the Outer Banks and were looking for a new business opportunity. Michael had previously worked in the restaurant industry, and Diane had a background in marketing and sales, so they decided to combine their skills and open a seafood restaurant.

The original Jolly Roger OBX location was a small, 50-seat restaurant in Nags Head, North Carolina. The Holcombs wanted to create a place that felt like a “local hangout,” where visitors could enjoy fresh seafood and good company. They named the restaurant after the Jolly Roger flag, a symbol of pirates and adventure, and decorated the walls with nautical artifacts and memorabilia.

The restaurant quickly became popular with locals and tourists alike. The Holcombs’ commitment to using fresh, local seafood and preparing everything from scratch resonated with customers. As the restaurant grew in popularity, the Holcombs decided to expand. In 2011, they opened a second location in Kill Devil Hills, which had more seating and a larger kitchen.

Over the years, Jolly Roger OBX has become a beloved part of the Outer Banks community. The restaurant has won numerous awards, including “Best Seafood Restaurant” and “Best Family Restaurant” from local publications. Customers rave about the seafood chowder, the crab cakes, and the fried shrimp. But it’s not just the food that keeps people coming back – it’s the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff.
