Outer Banks AYCE Seafood: Part 1
The Jolly Roger offers great AYCE Outer Banks seafood for those who just love a lot of a good thing. Landlubbers beware. Seafood specials abound at the Jolly Roger in October!! In fact we have not one but two ayce nights for different seafood specialties. Be warned, there are rules. This is not a feeding trough or a vegas casino or place to settle that bet over who has the highest metabolism.
The two seafood All you can eat (AYCE) blowout nights are as follows:
Tuesday
All you can eat fried oysters for only $19.95 with cole slaw and French fries
The all you can eat is from 6 to 9 in the evening
Wednesday
This is the fried seafood lovers dream night. Fish, Clam Strips, and Popcorn Shrimp make an endless trip out of the kitchen to your plate from 6 to 9pm. This includes French fries and cole slaw for only $14.99
But this begs the question, why are there so many rules for “AYCE”?. Well it got me wondering as well. So I tried to see what has happened in the AYCE area to make it such a treacherous area in terms of actually letting people eat endlessly.
Outer Banks AYCE Seafood :Part 2
The Violators
I pulled the buffet violator stories to see why you have to have buffet rules. Please keep in mind these are not Outer Banks buffets. Most are not even all seafood. But they do demonstrate what happens when a small select group of people are left to their own devices and badly abuse the buffet and their bodies. I pulled these from an article I saw online Here is a quick list of crazy, but true, buffet stories.
Pizza Pounding
One person downed 5 pizzas at an all you can eat pizza buffet.
- This is not that bad though borderline gluttonous
Bacon Grab
One lady would stuff trays of bacon into a napkin and put it into her purse.
- I know bacon is good, but save some for everyone else
Prime Rib Poundage
One person downed 7 pounds of prime rib and two pounds of shrimp at a buffet
- Honestly, did you really enjoy consuming an entire cow? Did you even taste anything while you were woofing it down?
Old Country Buffet Bum
One man would go to an Old Country buffet and stay there for 7 hours.
- Remember it is an all you can eat not an all you can eat EVER buffet.
Sushi Sacker
One lady took 4 trays of sushi back to her table.
- HOLD ON. It is an unwritten rule of buffeting, you can stack your plate but you cannot take the whole buffet back to your table. That defeats the purpose. That is closer to room service than a buffet. Part of the buffet experience is going up to a giant line of food choices and having to proportion plate space for maximum effectiveness. You are cheating yourself when you just take whole pans too the table. On a lighter note (a strange choice of words I know) I actually saw this in a cartoon. I thought pan lifting was an exaggeration until I read this story…who knew.
Buffet rebound
One man ate 4 plates of food, collapsed on the floor, and just got up and went to get more
- Ok-again, it is an unwritten rule. When you collapse, your buffet experience is over. You need to see a doctor after you get fished off the floor for overindulging.
All of these were impressive. It almost sounds like some of these people could win an all u can eat contest. Nevertheless, a buffet is about giving food value to your customer family, not feeding them for weeks to come or causing them to become violently ill. All crazy stories aside please come enjoy our all you can eat (buffet style) offerings SAFELY on Tuesday and Wednesday.
