Finding Father’s Day Gifts is not easy. While there is an endless number of things you can get Dad, there seem to be some definite stereotypes running through the pantheon of online gift catalogs. If I do not emphatically ask for what I want, I will get something that involves one, all, or a combination of the ingredients listed below:
- Ties
- Bacon
- Golf
- Coffee Mugs
- Beer
- Beards
It seems these are stereotypes of Dear old Dad on Father’s Day. It makes me worry a little. As a Dad, It is the general perception that I am a tie wearing, bacon eating beer obsessed coffee drinker….with facial hair. I do not know how being Dad boiled down to these traits. Yes I like bacon, and do use mugs and ties. But being a Dad is so much more than just that. Here are some other items I would like added to this list of Father’s Day gift themes and a quick synopsis of why they should be included in the list of stereotypical Father’s Day Gifts.
Duct Tape
We are the ones that fix that broken thing in the house and get it working again, any way we can. We have used push pins, scotch tape, duct tape, bobby pins, Velcro, belts and more to hold things together. Nothing is ever broken until you just can’t hold it together anymore with makeshift tools.
Ramen Noodles
Sometimes hunger hits and we have to solve it with simple practical means. I have served many a snack of these noodles to tame appetites.
Gavel
Dads hear the arguments of the children, wives, and family. We have to listen intently and adjudicate these disputes like a judge.
Pad And Paper
There are endless lists of things to do, all the time.
Blindfold
Sometimes being a Father presents you with situations where you just do not know what to do.
Pins
By Pins, I mean bowling pins. The type you see jugglers hurling in the air. Dads’ juggle tasks all the time
Pillow
We are exhausted from taking care of all the pets you asked for that come to us to feed and walk them.
Chauffeur Hat
Dad is the personal ride service for plays, ball games, trips to the store and more.
Well good luck with that. While we cannot help you pick a Father’s Day gift, we can provide a great meal here at the Jolly Roger. Happy Father’s Day!
